New intake of Bachelor's students

In the 2018/19 academic year, there is a record number of people of 56.706 students

starting their first university Bachelor's programme. The increased is caused by the intake of pre-university secondary school leavers, the growing number of international students in Bachelor programs as well as the increase in number of students that studied at universities of applied science before starting at a research university.

Intake of of pre-university secondary school leavers

Leading up to the 2012 academic year, there was much commotion surrounding the proposed increased statutory tuition fees for long-term students, which caused more students than expected to decide to defer a university study programme, either temporarily or indefinitely. As a result, the number of new entrants declined in this academic year. In the 2013-14 academic year, the number of first-year students was back on the rise.
