Increase international academic staff

The internationalisation of staffing in universities has gained momentum over the past few years. Universities are competing internationally to attract the best researchers.

The number of university lecturers and doctoral students of other nationalities has increased rapidly over the past few years. The category of Other University Staff comprises both researchers (in particular post-doctoral students) and lecturers who do not fall within the other categories. There, too, the proportion of international staff was already sizeable, but it still increased. This development was visible to a lesser extent among senior university lecturers (UHDs) and professors.

In terms of salary, Dutch universities cannot compete with American, British and Swiss universities, but they fare well against most countries in continental Europe.
